The Quarry Hill trails were mowed late last week and Essex Park was mowed today. The recent rain has really helped and the trails are in great shape for a trail run or a walk. The spring wild flowers are out in the shady areas and it won't be long before the sunny varieties start to bloom.
Trail work will resume at Essex Park this weekend with stump grinding on #11 followed by grading and seeding. The SE prairie area has also been flagged for a new loop. We'll have another work night at Essex Park soon as we resume work on the trail to the west of the farm house and also when we seed.
We've also mowed in a replacement path along the woods below the berm in the 55th street fields. We're going to try planting a strip of native prairie grasses on the north side as an experimental wind block. We'll watch how it works for the next winter or two and if successful, we'll add more to help control the drifting in that area.
