Essex Trail Seeding Complete for this Spring

Trail segment #33 was seeded and straw spread today. This is a huge milestone and represents the completion of the major trail work for this spring and early summer.  It's been a long haul to get this trail excavated and graded but it will be a great addition to the trail system. Thanks to Jeff Robertson for all his time and effort on the grading.

The grass is coming in well on segment numer #11 as well. Both trails will be closed for the next month or so to let the grass sprout and get started but we'll open them up to foot traffic again as soon as possible. Based on the trails we seeded last fall, closing them for a few weeks really helps them get established. We appreciate your patience.

We have a couple other areas in the south east prairie that we're leveling and grading but these are small and will be worked on over the summer.  Seeding of these and some additonal overseeding of bare spots will wait until fall.

Most trails in the park are open though and they're a great place for a trail run or walk. The prairie grass and wild flowers the Park Department planted on the south side of the Essex are in bloom and well worth the trip!
