City Council Hearing on Trail Connection Sept. 9th

After 3 last-minute postponements since July 6th, the issue of amendment to the official city map of the former DM&E land between 7th St. NW and Valleyhigh Drive NW is once again on the agenda for the Rochester City Council meeting tomorrow evening, Wed., Sept. 9th. The second item #105-120 under the list of hearings on the agenda reads: Continued Hearing on Amendment to Official Map #15 which identifies property needed for public uses within and along the former Dakota Minnesota and Eastern Railroad Corporation (Canadian Pacific) land lying between Valleyhigh Drive NW and 7th Street NW, west of Valleyhigh Drive NW.

You may access the complete meeting agenda at: http://www.rochestermn.gov/departments/citycouncil/councilmeetings/agenda.asp

A member of the city administrator's office has informed us that another postponement is unlikely and that the item is expected to remain on the agenda. Although most of the issues that adjacent property owners have had with the city's acquisition of this property for public use (including bicycle trail development) may have been settled in discussions during the postponement periods, there could still be a benefit to the bicycling/pedestrian community by having folks present at Wednesdays' meeting to advocate, if necessary, for trail placement within this corridor. Please plan to attend and represent Rochester's bicycling community if you are interested in seeing the interconnectedness of the city's bike lanes and trails continue to develop.

The council meeting is to be held at 7 pm in the city council chambers of the government building at 201 4th St. SE. As it is not possible to know just when after the start of the meeting this hearing will come up, those interested in this are encouraged to show up at the start of the meeting and be willing to wait for the item to be discussed.
