This past Friday (9/28), the last of the trail seeding was finished. With a little luck, we'll get some rain along with cooler temperatures over the next month that should get all of the grass a good start prior to the first snowfall.
Seeding consists of broadcasting seed followed by working it into the soil, rolling to improve seed-to-ground contact, then covering with a light layer of straw. We've also used erosion mat selectively in spots where we expect water to run across the trail.
After a week of work, many of the trails are ready for final hand work, raking, and seeding. Note: Trail segment numbers are identified on the trail map.
This week saw a concerted effort to get much of the rough grading and smoothing done on the trails to be used this winter.
