Rochester All-City Summer Running Program

Whether you’re a beginning runner or an experienced athlete, this new program for 9th – 12th graders will help improve your level of fitness, improve your enjoyment of running and improve your performance in fall cross country. We feature instruction on how to:
  * Run more
  * Run efficiently
  * Train effectively
  * Listen to your body

Dates: July 5 — August 14
(No big deal if you miss some sessions because you’re out of town or whatever)

Mondays 7:00 p.m. – 8:15p.m. @ Quarry Hill (Parkwood Hills Park)
Wednesdays 7:00 p.m. – 8:15p.m. @ Kellogg Middle School or Quarry Hill
Saturdays 8:00a.m. – 9:15a.m. @ Essex Park

Fee: $40 (assistance available)
Registration: See attached registration form below.

This program is designed to build into the cross-country season. It won’t involve any racing, only preparatory base training. If that’s not enough for you, we’ll also have:
  * A weekly guest speaker
  * Plyometric, agility and strengthening instruction
  * Lots of opportunity to socialize with other high school runners

Parents! Instead of dropping your kid off or waiting for them in the car, we invite you to use the time and location to walk or run on your own, or with other parents.

Questions? Contact Joey Keillor
E-mail: rochester.running@gmail.com or (evenings) 282-2747

* Note: The all-volunteer coaching staff will include a variety men and women who have an interest in endurance athletics, silent sports and fostering habits of life-long recreation and fitness in youth. Coaches will include some area high school coaches, coaches of the Rochester Nordic Ski Team, members of the Rochester Track Club and others.

Northshore Inline Marathon

Last Saturday (9/19) was the 14th. annual NorthShore Inline (skate) Marathon.  It is the largest inline marathon in the U.S. and is skated on about the same course as Grandma’s running marathon from Two Harbors to finishing at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

The overall fastest finishing time was 59:35:3 by Julian Rivera in the men’s elite division (that’s averaging a little more than 26 mph on skates) and the fastest woman was Kara Peterson at 1:18:21 in the women’s elite division.  Local skater Stan Jacobson set a course record of 1:17:28 for a 63 year old.

Local finishing times are attached.  Apologies to anyone I may have missed.

Quarry Hill Adult Programs

Quarry Hill offers a variety of programs oriented for adults. February features a 'Learn to Ski' session February 14 taught by RASC members followed by a trip to Forestville State Park for a day of skiing on February 28. The brochure below details events for all of 2009.

New - RASC Hiking / Trekking Group

RASC now has a new hiking / trekking group. This will be lead by Norm Meeks who is interested in leading hiking, backpacking, trekking and whatever trips. Local or long distance. He will be putting trips on the web site for all who are interested to join in the fun. Local trips will generally be “Okay, Norm is going to a local day hike to, say Forestville State Park on December 6th. He is going to leave from the parking lot at Crossroads Center at 9AM. If you want to join him, show up and be ready to go”.

Longer trips such as this pipe dream of Norm’s to do Gannett Peak in Wyoming next summer will be a bit more organized and formal. Reservations, carpooling, etc. will need to be done well before hand for some trips. Some trips will require good conditioning. Numbers will generally be limited to first come first served!

So come on out and join them! First trip will be to Forestville State Park on the 6th of December leaving from Crossroads Shopping Center at 9 AM. Any questions, email Norm Meeks (norm_meeks@yahoo.com).

Hope to see out there!
